As Christmas approaches, there is nothing more festive than sitting down with family or friends, drinking hot coca and watching a Christmas movie. You know the type of movie I’m talking about? You have Home Alone, Elf, The Grinch That Stole Christmas and so on and so forth. Everybody loves a good Christmas flick.

Traditional holiday movies are great, but it’s 2016 so there’s nothing wrong with being a bit unconventional this holiday season. Below are a couple of unconventional films that you must watch this winter.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Everybody needs a little magic on Christmas.. right? So you can’t go wrong with a movie from the Harry Potter saga. The Potter films are centered around friendship and overcoming your inner demons, however Christmas is celebrated (and often times brought up) in each film. I know you all remember when Mrs. Weasly made Harry a sweater for Christmas!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

If you want to take a ride on the unconventional side, Tim Burton is your guy. This 1993 classic is the perfect film to add to your binge list this holiday season. The Night Before Christmas brings adventure, mischief and the holiday spirit all together.  I mean, who wouldn’t want to see the King of Halloween kidnap Santa? Isn’t that Christmas movies are all about?

Mean Girls

I know it’s not October 3, but who cares.  Mean Girls is a pop culture CLASSIC and let’s not forget there was a whole 15 minutes dedicated to Christmas in this teenage flick. From the candy cane pass-out debacle to the risqué Jingle Bell performance, Mean Girls is a must-watch this holiday season – but then again, when is it not?

While You Were Sleeping

This lighthearted romantic comedy is the perfect movie to watch with that special someone in your life. This 1995 film is about a lonely transit worker who saves a man she’s been crushing on for months after he falls off the train platform. He can’t remember a thing when he wakes up, and in that time Bullock’s character has basically told everyone in his family they’re engaged. Oops. Let me not forget to mention this all takes place during the joyful Christmas season. There’s nothing more untraditional than a scandal at Christmas… right?
