Dear Readers,

Welcome back to campus and to the start of another fall semester at the U of I! We hope everyone had a fun and exciting summer break (although it certainly does still feel like summer with the eighty-degree days we’ve been having!) This year, we are thrilled to share a new website design with you and cannot wait to complement the new layout with even more original content each month.

Despite the hot and humid weather, it is the start of fall, and we are happy to share some pieces to help you get into the autumn spirit. Satisfy your sweet tooth with our recommendations for delicious pumpkin treats you can easily whip up this month, reminisce on previous barn dance experiences, and peruse our guide to the top nail trends for the season before getting your next manicure.

The Spread is also proud to feature a number of notable and talented individuals in this month’s issue. Learn more about Tarana Burke, activist and founder of the #MeToo movement, and her recent talk on campus. Find your new favorite social media account in Sarah Sigmon, creator of the “Selfies With Alma” Instagram page that has generated quite the buzz around campus. And get the inside scoop on local business Campus Ink through our featured video on their new Champaign store location, as well as follow up with our spotlight on Eric Weatherford, the artist who decorated the outside of their business.

I cannot wait to see what you think of our first issue this semester! In between the rush of class projects, exams, and meetings, cozy up with your laptop and scroll through the October Issue. You will be able to free your mind, and hopefully find your next favorite read! From everyone on the staff of The Spread to you, we wish you the best of luck in your classes, job hunting, and college life in general. The semester will be over faster than the leaves will fall, so make the most of your time and enjoy each moment to the fullest!

Sincerely,

Madison Gillespie, Editor-In-Chief (and Fall’s #1 Fan)
