How to Love Yourself this Season

By Emily Tao //

Prioritize your mental health.

There’s definitely a lot going on in the world, and as if that wasn’t enough, everybody is going through something different in their personal lives. With this in mind, it’s important to prioritize your mental health. It’s easy to let things get to you right now. Take this time to reflect and ask yourself if you’re really okay. Addressing your feelings is a simple way to heal and keep moving toward a future.

Don’t be afraid to treat yourself.

It comes easy to think about other people and constantly ensure they are doing alright. But when it comes to spoiling yourself, you may need an extra push. Go out and buy yourself something nice! You don’t need someone to buy you a gift, and being independent is not only an accomplishment but also a powerful feeling.

Surround yourself with people you love.

My roommates and I are hosting a Galentine’s Day, and I could not be more appreciative that I have people I love who I get to spend time with. It means a lot more to me to be able to spend time with people who I have known for a long time and have been there for me through my highs and lows. Reinforcing these positive influences in my life is very rewarding and helps remind me how lucky I am.

Focus on your physical health, too.

A way I like to love myself is by making sure I am also prioritizing my physical health. Knowing I can maintain a well-balanced lifestyle keeps me level-headed. Something as simple as a walk to keep my health up also helps me clear my head and gives me time to think while being active.

Rediscover your passion.

Another way to love yourself is by rediscovering your passions. We’re pressured to have an idea of what our life might look like, which is a lot to handle. Because of this, you lose sight of your hobbies and what you’re truly passionate about. I have noticed this in myself when I begin feeling overwhelmed. To counteract this, I take a break and do something I actually want to be doing so I can start enjoying life again and reigniting my inner fire.
