If you’re single like me, Valentine’s Day usually sucks. But this year, I decided I wanted to have a more positive attitude about the holiday as a whole. Instead of being sad on Valentine’s Day, I have decided to dedicate my time and attention to Galentine’s Day.
If you haven’t heard of Galentine’s Day, it was created by Leslie Knope from the popular TV comedy Parks and Recreation. This new holiday is not restricted to women — I encourage everyone to celebrate Galentine’s Day as a way to appreciate the friends who always have your back.
To help you enjoy Galentine’s Day to its fullest extent, I have thought of a few ways to celebrate the loves in your life.
Movie Marathon
Having a movie marathon is a classic activity for a group of friends, especially for those days you don’t feel like leaving the house, which are especially frequent during the winter. Whether you decide to embrace the ooey-gooeyness of traditional Valentine’s Day movies or opt for a gory movie instead, a movie marathon is a sure way of enjoying time with friends and getting lost in another world. Secret Galentine
Secret Galentine is the same concept as Secret Santa. Everyone in the group is randomly — and secretly — assigned to someone else to get a gift for. Secret Galentine is a great option for a group of crafty friends. Choose to make something from scratch, or pick something special out for them at a store. Remember to establish a price limit so everyone gifts items of the same calibur.
PowerPoint Party
I have seen PowerPoint parties gain a lot of popularity over the last year as a new way of entertaining. The best part of a PowerPoint party is the wide variety of topics you can discuss and laugh about with your loved ones through a set of slides each person creates dedicated to exhausting the topic. Some topic examples include college highlights, exes, and your favorite vacations. Get creative, and have fun!
Bake-Off
If you’re the group that is always looking for a new activity to try, a bake-off is another great way to spend time with friends. Either split into teams or compete solo and see who can create the most unique and tasty treats.
