Springing Into New Adventures

By Maddie Hayes

There are so many different things that come to mind when thinking of studying abroad. I usually just think about how crazy it is that students get the opportunity to spend a semester halfway across the world. My time abroad has been nothing short of the adventure of a lifetime, and I truly wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m currently studying abroad in Amsterdam and have absolutely fallen in love with it here. The people are so friendly, the food is amazing, and on top of it all, it’s an incredibly beautiful place. Everyone here is so accepting, and they all pretty much live by the motto “live and let live” which I love. Having Amsterdam as a home base has truly made this experience so amazing. Getting to travel to other countries has been so fun, but I’m always so excited to get to come back home to Amsterdam.

If you had told me a year ago that I would be night sledding in the Swiss Alps or Kayaking on the most beautiful lake I’ve ever seen I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s only been about a month since I’ve been in Europe and the adventures just keep on coming. From Switzerland, to Brussels, to Budapest, there have been so many things to see and places to explore that I never imagined I would experience.

This whole process has been such a huge opportunity for me to learn while also getting to experience so many cool things and immerse myself in new cultures. If you’re reading this, and have the opportunity to go abroad but aren’t sure if you want to, I’m telling you to just take that leap of faith because you will love it. This is truly the adventure of a lifetime. And if that doesn’t convince you then seriously just think about all the food. The Belgian chocolate was probably the best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life, which is saying a lot. Basically what I’m trying to get at is; don’t let anything stop you from doing what you want, even if it seems scary. Your adventure of a lifetime could be just around the corner waiting for you to just take it.
