With Thanksgiving coming up, it’s the season of showing people how appreciative you are of them. It’s always nice to hear “thank you” from those in your life, but if you’re looking for some unique ways to thank those who are close to you, here are six ways to show how much you appreciate them and everything they do for you.
Send a Meme
Memes are not only relatable and funny, but are also a great way to let people know that you’re thinking of them. If you find a funny meme that reminds you of a friend, tag them or send them a screenshot of it and let them know it made you think of them. It makes people feel so special to know that you went out of your way to show them that you’re thinking of them even when they aren’t around.
Venmo for Coffee
Being in college, we’ve all had those times when all of our assignments just happen to fall on the same week. We end up pulling all-nighters to get our work done, and sometimes just need a cup of coffee to keep us going. Venmoing a friend $5 if you know they’ve been stressed is such an easy way to show someone that you care about them and their well being (as well as their success in school). It can motivate them to keep going if they know someone is supporting them, even if showing support is just venmoing them a few dollars to treat themselves when you know they’ve been working so hard.
Cook Dinner for Your Roommate or Parents
If you have some extra time on your hands, making dinner for your roommate or parents is a great way to show how thankful you are for them. Even if you aren’t a great chef, you can make something simple and foolproof like pasta or frozen pizza. It’s really the thought that counts with this one, and odds are they will care more about the fact that you chose to do something nice for them rather than the quality of the food. If you’re one of those people who almost burns the house down whenever you try to make toast, you can also surprise them and order food in.
Leave a Note on their Desk
If you have some extra Post-it notes in your backpack, leaving a simple message for your friend can really brighten their day. Saying something like “You’re the best”, or “Thank you for everything you do for me” is an easy way to put a smile on someone’s face and let them know that you appreciate them.
Text Your Mom and Dad
This one is truly as simple as it gets. Your parents only want the best for you, and are likely one of your biggest support systems. It’s so hard for them to be away from their kids while we’re in college, and just sending them a quick text to say hi and catch up is an easy way to show them you’re thankful for everything they do for you.
Say Thank You to Your Teachers
Teachers spend hours making lesson plans and put so much effort into making sure their students are having a worthwhile experience while they’re at school. They often aren’t thanked for all of the work they put in, but still continue to do it anyways because they care so much about their students and their success. Saying “thank you” when you’re walking out of class shows them that you recognize and appreciate all of the hard work they put in for you.
