Dear Readers,
It has been a very chilly few weeks, but that won’t stop us from coming out of hibernation for our first full-length issue of the semester! The Spread is ready to help you beat those winter blues, with entertaining and heartfelt topics to bring some light into these icy, overcast days. (Fingers crossed it will at least get warmer around here!)
From Valentine’s Day to tips and tricks for networking, this month’s issue is brimming with topics highly relevant to the season. In terms of the upcoming holiday of love, you can peruse some decadent chocolate recipes that will surely impress your date for the evening. Or, if you won’t be celebrating with a significant other, check out our advice on fun “Galentine’s Day” activities or on treating yourself to a relaxing night alone. As mentioned before, this season is also notable for spring career fairs. Take the time to review our networking advice if you’re still out hunting for that dream job!
We are also thrilled about this issue’s two featured articles. If you have an insatiable sweet tooth, look no further than Hopscotch Bakery + Market, local to Champaign and the star of this month’s Small Business Spotlight. And if you want to learn more about one of the world’s most exceptional contemporary artists, make sure to read our Artist Spotlight about Yayoi Kusama.
With more cold and snowy days in the forecast, there are plenty of opportunities to curl up and explore the February issue in its entirety. Everyone from The Spread wishes you happy reading, but more importantly, we hope you have safe travels to and from class and a great start to the Spring 2019 semester!
Sincerely,
Madison Gillespie, Editor-In-Chief
