Winter break can be a drag. After about a week, hanging out with family is boring, nothing good is on TV, and you’ve already done everything you planned to do. If you have a significant other or even just someone you’re interested in, you’ve probably been racking your brain to come up with ideas for what to do over break together. What is a better way to escape those winter blues than a road trip? Both of you can blast your favorite music, sing at the top of your lungs, and explore the Midwest together. Here are four quick Chicagoland road trip ideas for you and your boo during the holiday season.
1.) Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
Lake Geneva is a quaint town in southern Wisconsin. In the summer, it’s the perfect weekend getaway, and in the winter, the town is just as great. There are indoor adventures at the Wilderness Waterpark Resort, and the town even has a winterfest! Check out more ideas here.
2.) Muskegon, Michigan
Muskegon is a town full of character about three hours from Chicago. It seems quiet at first, but it has the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex, complete with ice luges. The beginner course is 850 feet, and you go around 30 miles per hour. This is the ideal getaway for that adventurous couple you know. Learn more about the ice luge here.
3.) Gurnee, Illinois
If you take the Edens to 294 and traffic isn’t horrendous, Gurnee is about an hour and 15 minutes from the Loop. It’s also home to Six Flags Great America. This year, Six Flags is having a Holiday in the Park. Rides will be open, and Santa will be making an appearance. If amusement parks aren’t your thing, Gurnee is also home to one of the largest outlet malls in the Chicago area. To find out more about Holiday in the Park, click here.
4.) Downtown Geneva, Illinois
Geneva is about an hour from Chicago but brings you to a whole new world. The downtown is full of cute boutiques and family-owned stores, giving Geneva an entirely different feel from the rest of the Chicago area. For more information on what a trip to Geneva is like, click here.
So there you have it, Illini: four road trips for over winter break. Be safe when driving, and stay classy!
