POEM: Petrichor

It is the smell of renewal, a fresh start

of one’s sins and darkness washed away

by a cool and undiscerning hand

It is the once cracked and dry ground

now filled to the brim, unblemished

made whole again by the weeping heavens

It is flora unfolding with a newfound life,

            the roots drinking their fill

beneath the cover of an overcast sky

It is the rhythmic drum against the window

a steady tattoo that aligns with the beat of your heart,

and a promise of a better day to come
