An internship will always look good on your resume, but it would benefit you even more if it turned into a guaranteed job. So, here are my three “Triple A” tips to help you ace your internship!
Appearance
Some internships may allow you to wear casual clothing. However, your image can have a strong impression on your employer. You don’t have to buy a new wardrobe, but putting more effort into what you wear to a professional workplace will benefit you in the end. It shows your employer that whether you are an intern or not, you’re serious about the message the company represents – and they will notice you for it.
Attitude
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill
It’s common to have a bad day, not like a co-worker, miss your morning coffee, and so on. However, everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about, so instead of letting negative things affect you, try to stay positive by focusing on the little things in life that you often overlook. Furthermore, bring that positivity into the workplace. Make your day brighter by making someone else’s day better, whether it’s by giving someone a compliment, going the extra mile and getting your co-workers coffee, or simply asking how someone else is doing. Employers are always paying attention to the attitudes of their employees, so leave them with a positive impression of yours!
Appreciation
If your internship is not what you expected, always remember that it’s still a great opportunity to gain experience and network. Never slack on your responsibilities or give your employer a poor performance simply because you aren’t doing what you originally thought you would. Your employer will remember your efforts and can connect you with other businesses, so always appreciate the opportunities you are given.
Overall, your Appearance, Attitude, and Appreciation will be what most employers remember about you. Individually they can take you far in any industry, but together, they can help turn any internship into a guaranteed job.
