Dear Readers,
Hello, and happy March! Spring break will be here soon, but the biggest party of the year will arrive even sooner! Unofficial returns to UIUC this weekend, and all of campus will be smothered in shamrock T-shirts and green beer until actual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are over. It’s a great time to be an Illini, and we have channeled that same energy into this month’s issue. Several of our articles this month cover Unofficial and topics relating to St. Patrick’s Day, so read these if you are looking to get into the festive spirit!
We are also thrilled to announce that the scope of our magazine has expanded! From this issue onward, literary submissions will be incorporated each month. We have three amazing pieces in this issue for you to check out: one written poem, and two spoken word poems entitled “Just My Luck” and “Moon Man” for you to watch.
Another new change to the magazine is that we will be utilizing Spotify for all of our playlists! So when you check out our spring break and Unofficial Darty playlists this month, you will be able to access and listen to them anywhere at any time. In terms of other featured content for the March issue, you can learn more about Hear My Voice, an up-and-coming RSO on campus. Also make sure to read about Bed Shoe Home, an innovative community art movement designed to spread awareness of homelessness in the Urbana-Champaign area, and check out the stories of two Illinois Campus Recreation employees to get a glimpse into what working at the ARC and CRCE is like.
While the semester is moving by quickly, make sure to take advantage of the next few weeks and really enjoy yourself. After all, you’ll be finished with another (and possibly your last) year of college before you know it! So keep working hard, excel in your classes and read through the rest of the March issue as you go. From everyone here at The Spread, we wish you success on your midterms, a fun and safe Unofficial and all the four-leaf clovers you can find!
Sincerely,
Madison Gillespie, lucky EIC
