POEM: What Was the Final Straw?

THE WHITE SOCKS BALLED ON THE FLOOR.

THE COFFEE CUP, DIRTY ON THE COUNTER.

THE LILIES DYING IN THEIR VASE.

THE PHOTO ALBUMS IN THE CABINET, UNFILLED.

THE THREE UNANSWERED VOICEMAILS.

THE TOWEL, WET NEXT TO THE SHOWER.

THE LOVE NOTE FORGOTTEN ON THE FRIDGE.

THE CHRISTMAS CARD NEVER SENT.

THE DATE NIGHT THAT WAS SKIPPED.

THE POT ROAST THAT WAS BURNED.

THE MILK NEVER PICKED UP.

THE PHONE PASSWORD THAT WAS CHANGED.

THE TWENTY THAT WENT MISSING.

THE EYES THAT WERE LOWERED.

THE SMOKE UNDER THE BATHROOM DOOR.

THE HASTY “I LOVE YOU.”

THE COMPUTER PASSWORD THAT WAS CHANGED.

THE BED THAT WASN’T SLEPT IN.

THE SEVEN UNANSWERED VOICEMAILS.

THE ROTTEN PEACHES IN THE FRIDGE.

THE BILLS STACKED ON THE TABLE.

THE RUM HIDDEN IN THE DESK.

THE SLAMMED DOOR.

THE DENIAL.

//WHAT WAS THE FINAL STRAW?//
