Dear Readers,
It’s great to see you again! Can you believe we’re already a month into 2017? The blissful month of freedom winter break provided us now feels like a distant memory as classes are starting to pick back up. Midterms are just over the horizon, and the blustery weather at UIUC already has some of us dreaming of the sparkling white beaches of summer. Things are certainly getting busier on campus, and we at The Spread are ready to dive into another successful semester with our first issue of the new year!
Since Valentine’s Day is two short weeks away, several of our articles this month focus on the romantic holiday. Whether you’re planning a fun Galentine’s Day evening with girlfriends or are in need of the perfect restaurant for date night, we’ve got you covered! One of our featured videos this issue is also centered on Valentine’s Day; we interviewed several female students about how they would like to spend February 14 this year. There are two more videos you can check out after that, both pertaining to fitness! You could learn some simple new exercises that can easily be completed in your dorm or apartment, or go through some tips to help you stay motivated towards your summer health goals. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to work in a residence hall, you can also read this month’s feature on two of our very own University Housing employees.
While spring semester may have just begun, we’ll be wishing it goodbye again before we know it. Fall semester already blew by (much like the autumn leaves), and while I’m sure everyone’s itching for Unofficial and spring break, don’t forget to take time to enjoy your life right now. Make the most of the remaining winter weather, keep striving towards your goals and surround yourself with the people you love, on Valentine’s Day and every other day. It’s the little things like this that will make your February all the sweeter (so will your heart-shaped box of chocolates, if it lasts that long).
So check out the rest of this month’s issue as you go about your week. The entirety of our staff wishes you a happy February, a fantastic Valentine’s Day and the best of luck with your studies!
Sincerely,
Madison Gillespie, EIC / chocaholic
