The famous Mexican grill chain, Chipotle, recently introduced a new protein to its menu: chorizo sausage. The sausage is known for its unique spiciness that often characterizes Mexican cuisine. Being an enormous Chipotle fan, I expected a lot out of my chorizo burrito; unfortunately, I was left disappointed.
My burrito contained half servings of both chorizo and chicken, brown rice, black beans, corn, sour cream, guacamole and lettuce.
While the chorizo was not bad, it was just mediocre. There was no real flavor there – it was bland and lacking in spiciness. Mexican cuisine is known for being spicy and full of unique flavors due to the variety of spices used. While Chipotle isn’t known for its “Mexican-ness,” chorizo is known to be flavorful, and this was disappointing.
When discussing the chorizo with my friend who accompanied me, he used the term “meh” to describe the flavors, and I can definitely say that “meh” is the right word for the soggy sausage in my food that day.
