When You Know Long Distance Just Isn’t Working

Once a relationship starts, it will end in marriage. Girls in their first relationship especially think this is true. But is it?

They think, “We have love, so nothing can be an obstacle!” It doesn’t matter if their parents disagree or how difficult the future might be. But is that true? They know how much they will have to go through together in the future, but they are sure they can make it. Love is everything they need! Or is it?

I can’t believe love is like this, they say. They can’t believe that in just one month, he has changed into a totally different person. They refuse to believe that it is possible to argue every two hours. They cannot believe they are so mismatched. They can’t believe “love” could disappear in such a short time. Love is amazing, but it’s so hard to keep.

In a relationship, it is not easy to maintain love: It is often quite easy to break it. This could be due to misunderstandings or endless arguments. If couples stay together, they have a chance to fix their relationship through communication. If they can’t fix their problems through communication, it might be the end of the relationship.

When the relationship passes the honeymoon period, the couple can get bored easily and arguments often take place. Arguments are big obstacles in a relationship, but long distance makes them even worse. Couples can start arguing anywhere, through the phone, through text message, over a video call – they don’t need to be face-to-face.

However, making up after a fight generally needs to be done in person. Reconciling over the phone or in an email could make things worse. There is a chance for miscommunication or misunderstanding. It is just different with long-distance relationships.

They think, “He would never do something like this when we first met.” They start to wonder what they should do. They think that even the simplest hug and kiss can solve the relationship, but long distance doesn’t always work that way when you can’t connect in person.
