Six Good Books to Read Over Thanksgiving Break

As Thanksgiving break slowly gets closer, many UIUC students are beginning to wonder what on earth they will do over break. With no classes and little homework, students have an entire week to just sit back and relax, and what better way to sit back and relax than by reading a book? To get you started, here’s a list of must-reads you can sit down and finish over break.

Fiction
1.) Paper Towns by John Green

If you haven’t read it already, or seen the movie, this charming tale about a girl who loves mysteries is one of those books where it’s impossible to put down. In the course of 300 pages, not only will you fall in love with the characters, but also develop a whole new perspective on your own life.

2.) Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

In this enticing mystery, a man with a missing wife has to try and deal with his whole town asking “did he kill her?” It is a bit of a longer read but definitely great for any mystery lover.

3.) The Martian by Andy Weir

Another book with a recent movie adaptation, this shock tale of abandonment will have you sitting on the edge of your seat for the entire read. It is a great book for any sci-fi lover, or anyone interested in space.

4.) The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

If you are a fan of psychology or psychological thrillers, this is the book for you. A tale of lying and manipulation told by an unreliable narrator, this book is a real page turner.

Non-Fiction

5.) Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

If you are a fan of hilarious comedian Mindy Kaling, this is the book for you. Personal essays written by the actress herself make this book a must-read.

6.) I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb
