Fall TV Premieres I Am Excited For

By Ada Li

Move over, summer TV shows, and make way for these TV shows premiering in the fall. Ranging from comedy to horror, these are some of the fall television shows that I am looking forward to watching.

Gotham (Fox)

Premiere date: September 21, 2015

This will be the premiere of the second season of Gotham.  Gotham is based off of the Batman franchise and is set before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. The main focus of the show is not young Bruce Wayne but Detective Jim Gordon, and how he navigates through a corrupt city filled with crime.  Villains in the Batman franchise make appearances in the show and some of their backstories are featured.

Scream Queens (Fox)

Premiere date: September 22, 2015

Scream Queens is a new show featuring Emma Roberts as Chanel, the president of Kappa Kappa Tau Sorority.  The girls of Kappa Kappa Tau are being targeted by the Red Devil, and recent murder events are somehow connected to a mysterious death 20 years ago in the Kappa house.  Scream Queens is not your typical horror/thriller show.  As a horror/comedy show, it is packed with horror movie cliches and commentary on the social media addiction of the younger generations.

Fresh Off The Boat (ABC)

Premiere date: September 22, 2015

The first season of Fresh Off The Boat resonated with Asian-Americans, especially first generations.  Based on Eddie Huang’s memoir, Fresh Off The Boat revolves around the Huang family and their new life in suburban Orlando.  Comical and satirical, the show plays off the struggles of immigrant families and the stereotypes that embody their existence in a new place.  Hopefully season two maintains the same balance between humor and satire as the first season.

Grandfathered (Fox)

grandfathered

Premiere date: September 29, 2015

A new TV show entering Fox’s network, Grandfathered is about bachelor Jimmy Martino (played by John Stamos) who discovers that he has a son who has a daughter due to a one-night-stand.  Jimmy, who does not like being tied-up, must now help his son Gerald (played by Josh Peck) raise his daughter.  Grandfathered smells of comedy, romance, and good old father-son bonding.

iZombie (CW)

izombie

Premiere date: October 6, 2015

iZombie is not your typical The Walking Dead zombie show.  In this show, zombies are capable of maintaining human intelligence and movement unless they haven’t eaten any brains for awhile.  The show is about Liv Moore, who turned into a zombie and now works at a morgue.  Her boss, Dr. Ravi, knows that she is a zombie and allows her to feed on the brains of dead victims.  For some reason, Live can obtain memories from the brains she eats and uses that to help Seattle PD detective Clive solve crimes.  Season one ended with a heartbreaking decision made by Liz, so I cannot wait to see what season two has to offer.

American Horror Story: Hotel (FX)

Premiere date: October 7, 2015

I personally did not like the first season of American Horror Story, so I avoided its other seasons until Freak Show, which I watched with my friends every week.  That is why I am excited about American Horror Story: Hotel – not to mention Lady Gaga will be part of the cast.  I am ready for another freaky rollercoaster ride.  American Horror Story: Hotel will be about Detective John Lowe investigating a serial murder case in Los Angeles and its connection to Hotel Cortez.
